Nicole’s Top 5: Favorite Family Activities in Pinellas County

There is no lack of fun family activities in Pinellas County, it’s one of the reasons my family loves living here. From activities along our beautiful coastline to indoor activities, these are our favorite to-do’s as a family.

For fresh air and outdoor activities, these are our favorites:

Honeymoon Island

It doesn't get much prettier than this.

Outings at Honeymoon Island. Honeymoon Island has one of the most beautiful, pristine and dog-friendly beach areas. We love to head down to Honeymoon Island with our dog a couple times a month for the sunset. It is also a great place to run or to train for triathlons! Our family has a yearly family pass ($160), but you can get individual passes for $80 or pay by the day. Check out their website at www.floridastateparks.org. There is also a snack shack and clean bathrooms (and yes that matters!)

The Pinellas Trail: The Pinellas Trail runs from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. We usually get on right at Curlew and Alternate 19 and bike ride as a family. Our 5 year old recently started riding without training wheels and this is a perfect place for him! When it’s just us grownups on road bikes, we ride down the Pinellas Trail to Clearwater and get in some exercise along Clearwater’s beautiful bridges.

For Staying in:

Gattitown. Recently opened on McMullen Booth at 590 in Clearwater and nestled in the Bayside Plaza, Gattitown is a lot like a mix between Cicis and Chuck E. Cheese. It has great arcade games, a pizza buffet with a lot of sides, and large dining areas with sports and kid programming on television. My kids love the claw games (where you snag a toy that ultimately gets tossed within a few days, but still…) and they also have a fun ride-on ride inside the arcade.  Gattitown is a great place for a birthday party, a night out with the family or a  rainy day. Check it out online: http://www.gattispizza.com/

IMAG0705Airheads (locations in Tampa & Largo) : Airheads is an amazing indoor trampoline arena where my kids can be active and have a BLAST at the same time. You can jump on the giant trampoline area, play basketball on it and dodgeball. They also offer fitness classes (trampoline isolates muscles you never knew existed!) and if you want to sit back and watch the kids exhaust themselves from all the fun, Airheads offers free wifi and I am able to bring my laptop and get some work done. The Tampa location even has a camera where you can keep an eye on the kids from where you’re sitting. They offer package deals where you can pair up jump-time and lunch. You’d be surprised how long an hour can be when you’re bouncing on the trampoline at Airheads!

The Movie Theater. We really love our family movie time. With our three boys, we are always catching the latest kids movie at the Saturday matinee, it’s just a classic activity that never gets old for us. My favorite movie snack? The popcorn of course. With lots of butter and salt (don’t tell anyone!) Here’s a tip: If you get the large size refillable popcorn,  you can ask for little bags on the side and give everyone some of the large. If you run out, just refill! And avoid having to buy everyone their own popcorn.

What’s your favorite family activity in Pinellas County or wherever you live?
